TER Rhoda: A Girl With A Backpack

Where are you from and what hobbies or interests define you?

I am from Taipei, Taiwan. I’m just an ordinary girl. I used to enjoy reading a lot, but now I’ve had a swift change into watching films. I like the classics, the cheesy love stories and even documentaries. Discussing TV shows with friends or strangers at a pub is definitely the most interesting weekly activity I like to do. It’s amazing that you can get to learn about someone so quickly, just based on their playlists, even though we just reveal a side of ourselves to that person and vice versa.

What is @agirlwithabackpack and what are your goals with it?

@agirlwithabackpack was first used when I went on a trip to Hiroshima on foot. It was a two week long backpacking trip where I walked over 300km and visited over six places. It was a time with myself and I changed a lot since moving to Kyoto, Japan. It was a trip of reflection, heartbreak, and memories.

Since then, I fell in love with traveling. To be more precise, meeting new people all around the world and exchanging stories is my favourite part. With the blog, Instagram and Youtube platform, I want to share my very own experiences with everyone. Not just travel tips or guides, but that actual reason I decided to visit a place and the memories that I have created whilst on the journey.

What is your passion/motivation in life?

Love comes first, then there is my faith.

Who do you live for and why?

This might sound stupid, but I’d like to live for the one I love the most. There is no exact reason or explanation. Just an easy concept of love, trust, and the everlasting joy of finally finding that missing piece. I sort of have this idea in my head that, “I live just to find that one true love.” Hopeless romantic I know, yet this gives me strength, even during the toughest and most painful time.

What are you most afraid of?

I am most afraid of never being able to find the one true love.

What makes you proud?

My faith and my beliefs make me proud.

What’s a piece of advice you wish you could have told yourself in the past?

I wish I could have told myself to be more confident.

What's your biggest pet peeve?

I dislike people who eat food off of my plate without asking first.

Are you close with your family? Why or why not?

I am getting closer with my family, especially with my younger sister after living in a different country. Due to the realization that it’s hard to say goodbye; it seems like distance had created the urge of building a stronger connection with my own family. Moreover, with the language barrier, there are some thoughts that can only be expressed in my mother tongue, which is easier to share with my family.

If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

I would like to make people realize that their voices do matter.
