Who do you live for? Hmm interesting question. Don’t think I’ve ever been asked that before. I’m not egotistical in any sort of way, but I think there is some value in living for yourself and making your own way in this world. Sure some of the things I do I do in honor of family, friends, and loved ones, but at the end of the day I choose to find my own way in this world. Walk a path uniquely my own. I just like to remind myself to be kind to others. Do your best to be an A-class citizen of this planet. The rest is really up to you.
What’s the biggest life lesson you learned?
I have this quote that sits on my piano that I look at every time I sit down and play – “If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. Remember – there are no limits. There are only plateaus. And you must not stay there. You must go beyond them.” I’m paraphrasing a little here, but you get the idea. Life will throw you a myriad of challenges and obstacles that will test you to your limits. I think that it's necessary because it’s just a part of our nature as humans. The trick is learning to see through this. Believe in yourself enough to try. You’ll be surprised by what you can accomplish. Sure the loom of failure will always be there, but it’s how you approach that inert fear that can really define you and what you choose to do with your life.
Why do you travel? The main reason I really love to travel is being able to submerse myself in another culture. It’s not often we get to experience a different way of life, even if it’s only for a moment. This world is insanely large and beautiful, and the commonalities and differences that make up human life is so vast and large, its breath taking. To be able to afford the luxury to experience that has taught me a lot about life in other part of the world. It’s humbling to be able to travel and know what it’s like to experience a normal day in another part of the world. I love it. I think in a way I’ll always be trying to experience that from here on out.
What are your goals? The current immediate goal for myself at the moment is trying to get a website up and running for a musical side project me and my buddy have been working. It’s daunting and exciting. We’ve become such a niche little part of the electronic music scene here in San Diego that we’ve come to the realization that the time really is now for us to make a move. See what comes of it all. Aside from that I’d really love to play a few more shows here locally in town. Last year was just a string of event after event, but it felt like I was going in the right direction.
Long term goals – I will start a business one day. Really become financially independent and allow myself some more freedom to do what I truly love; make more music. I also really want to build a cabin in the woods for some reason. Find a place to call my own.
